With the advent of microfiber over the last several years cotton polishing cloths have seemed to fall out of favor with detailing enthusiasts and for good reason, the majority of so called 100% cotton buffing and polishing cloths contain polyester stitching and low grade cotton that often leaves behind fine scratches in many automotive finishes, a real frustration when you’ve spent the better part of a Saturday buffing out your pride and joy and are left with a less than perfect shine. While microfiber has eliminated many of the problems associated with the run-of-the-mill, locally available cotton polishing cloths there are still scratching issues with some of the lesser grade microfiber cloths being sold at discount stores and big box retailers. I love high quality microfiber towels and cloths, they are simply amazing however, when it comes to that final buff to get that holy grail, gleaming reflection in my paint, I still turn to 100% cotton polishing cloths. There’s just something about the feel of the paint surface through ultra-fine cotton that you can’t get when using microfiber. Fine surface imperfections are easier to identify with the tactile feel through the cotton as well. 100% cotton polishing cloths have been used by show winning detailers for years, there is a reason, they work and they provide an outstanding final finish that is impossible to beat!
